Old photograph's

I just love old photo's.
I have been collecting them for years now and I do have allot of them.
I am still looking for more pictures, and these are the type of pictures that I am looking for.
But not computer images, no the real thing.
I put them in frames and I look at them every day.
It is like an art form, the way the people look, the way their hair is done and their clothes, especially children.
Can't have enough of those photo's.

If any one can help me find more of these photograph please let me know.

Bath time

Emma and Amber just love to be in the bathtub.
It's not hard to get them in the tub, it is hard to get them out of the tub.
Usually I just pull the plug out.
And then wehn the water is gone they will come out.
Now Emma knows where the waters goes.
So she will sit on the drain, stopping the water from going away.
Amber is getting curly hair.
I wonder how that tastes...

Our house

Our house, in the middle of the street... our house....Song by Madness. The side.
The same side but at an other angle.
The front porche.
The same front porche.
The other side!

outdoors

The kids love their new swingset.

Kid's

Emma is playing with paper dolls my friend made her.

She is so easy to please.

When she was 2 I got her a nice xmas present, and she played with the box it came in.

Amber loves playing with things she shouldn't play with.

Like my facuum, or my keyboard or mouse.

And when Amber doesn't get her way with things, then this is the face she makes.
Kid's!

turning point

Coming here is a turning point in our lives, from going to noting to everything.
Can you imagion how we felt when we came here?
Not knowing anyone, not knowing what we would find?
Or where to go even.
Because the house that we could move into was only for 1 month.
The realtor we met online is a great person, he and his wife are very special to us.
Without them we really would have been lost.
We found a little place we could rent.
By talking to people in the bus, we just had to try and hopefully someone knew someone...well you know.
So here we are, in Swift current andso far things have been good.
I still look back over my shoulders.
I still feel like something bad is going to happen to us again.
And it is really hard to let my gard down, hope thats the way to say it.
You see, In Holland we did have alot, and we did have nothing..because what we had wasn't ours.
People gave us things, but when they found out we had to leave, they wanted it all back.
That left us with nothing to sell.

Last week we were talking, Stan and I... and we think alike.
We wanted to buy things for the kid's, like yard toys.
They have lost so much, and we feel bad and guilty.
So Stan placed an add in the newspaper and boy we got alot of phone calls already.
But, we did buy one very nice one.
It looks great and the people we got it from are so nice.
They told us to come and get it so we could set it up.
But our money is a little low right now.
So we asked if we could get it next week.
And you know what they said????
We will bring it and you can pay us next week. (we have no car)
Isn't that nice???
I am so surpriced about how the people are here.
So kind and helpfull.
And I almost feel bad again because I have nothing to give in return.
But Stan and I are so happy and Emma is crazy about the swing set...she loves it!

Swift current was a huge gamble for us, we had no idea what we would find.
We didn't have anything when we came here, and look at us now!
We have a nice little home, and a swingset for the kid's!
Life is great here... it really is.
This really was a turning point.

Swift current

This is the highway going to Swift current.
This is how everything looks around here, with hills and beautiful views.
And here is our house, I marked it in red! And this is the town it self.
I didn't make the picture by the way!

A dutch recipe, you should try it!

Snert or pea soup the dutch way

(Frisian pea soup)That is a province in Holland.

Ingredients:
2 liter water
500 gr split pea
2 potatoes
2 large onions
100 gr celery turnip
1 small winter carrot
1 leek
(celery) salt
2 pork chops
3-5 slices side porks

(rye bread)
Preparation:
Wash the split peas in a colander until the water remains clean.
Bring the water with the split peas to a boil. Dice potatoes, onions, celery turnip and winter carrot and slice the leek completely (keep white and green separate).
Add half of each vegetable and the green part of the leek . Flavour with salt. Turn the heat as low as possible or use a flame dispenser. Simmer over very low heat for at least 2 hours. Stir regularly.
Add the other half of the vegetables, the sliced pork chops and cubed side pork. See if you have to add (celery)salt and simmer for another hour .
Delicious served with rye bread which you can eat with the side pork (Like the Frys will say, "Frysk roggebrea mei spek"). Frisian peasoup tastes even better the next day (or freeze the soup for later).
If made right, you can place a wooden spoon straight up in the soup pan without the spoon tipping over.

And at the same time, it will be some sort of nice day out for us.
MaybeI can do some shopping!!!
But at the other end... I have no idea what to expect!
What if they tell me to go back where I came from?!
Yuk... no fun...I have to wash my brain now for thinking that!!!

Lets just hope they won't keep us waiting for an other year or so...I am tired of waiting, I wanna live!!!

dresser

Yesterday we bought this dresser in the newspaper for $20 can.
And it looks great!
I think I will paint it white, because I love our furniture to be light.
But we will see... haven't made up my mind yet!

Why Saskatchewan?

Some people ask me how we got from Holland to Swift current.
I always tell them with a plane.
But they mean, why we picked Swift current and why Saskatchewan.
And then I think, why did we pick Saskatchewan???
We had no idea what Saskatchewan would be like.
We didn't know anyone.
And to go somewhere were you have nothing, is kinda scary.

Stan is member of a wewbsite for Ghosttowns.
And he has been looking on the internet for ghost towns.
So he went on a realtor site and found Kelsey Adam, he asked him if they sell abandoned houses and if he knew of someone that did.
He said that they would sell, but that no realtor would do it cause there isn't money in it for them.
So Stan and Kelsey started talking about Swift current, and it seem a good place to start a new life.
Stan also started looking for a company that would hire him, and he found a great company.
Befor we left from Holland he had a job, and we had a place to live for 1 month.
Kelsey was selling his old house and we could stay there for 1 month untill we got something else.
We found something else, a college of Kelsey had a house for rent.
So here we are....from Ghost town searching to Swift current.
Life can be weird and also alot of fun.
Sometimes in life you feel trapped... like what we were in the Netherlands.
We didn't have a life there.
And when Stan got refused my world came crashing down.
I had to say goodbye to my family, and farewell to my grandmother, I will never see her again in this life.
But this is our life now, and we are going to make the best of it.

I can sleep...

Kids are really easy.
If they get tired, they fall down and sleep.
Amber went out like a light.

Swing

Hi everyone, we got a swing for the backyard.
Someone just gave it to us because the seat has a little rip at the bottom.
We don't care that it is ripped where we can't see it LOL
Emma loves it, she didn't want to go inside for lunch today, she wanted to sit on "her" swing.
We also put an add in the newspaper, we are asking for toys for the kids for in the backyard, like a sandbox and swingset or slide.
Emma loves being outside, Amber loves it too, but she kinda has a problem with standing up on the grass, she falls down after every step.
Next year in the spring time when everything starts to grow I will put some nice flower seeds in the ground and sunflowers and we will make a pretty garden just for the girls.
No tulips, because it seems that the deer love to eat them.

How the intereur looks so far

Well, my collection.... and that will never stop.
You can also see the beautiful glas globe I have, my brother gave it to me, there is real gold in it, a friend of his made it in England. This is our new side table, we got 2 so we have one on either end of the couch.
The door opening to the kitchen, the living room isn't big, but it is nice.
Soon I will finish the walls with clasic wallpaper, because the way it is now looks a bit cold.
And the couch, it is an old one for sure, but looks great and sits comfortable.
And this is what I love about the couch, the sides are with wood and wicker.
You don't have to buy everything new, because the old can be just as good...at least your keeping money in your pocket!

Basement

Here you can see Stan inspecting what is under our house, he is now at the back of the basement in the boiler room.
Behind that door is an other room.
This is the bedroom that is in the basement, it is not really that big, but it has a bed in there and alot of boxes and other things we just put there, and we still have room to walk around in.
This is part of the boiler room, you can see at the backend there is a crawling space.
This is the door in the kitchen to the basement. And this is what you see when you come from the stairs.

The basement is nice and dry now, I guess they fixed it and they had even kids sleeping in here.
No kids of mine will even sleep in a basement like this.
We will fix it up if we stay here long enough.
Someone told us that the landlady was thinking about selling it.
So who knows... maybe one day this will be ours.
